"I love jewelry; I love art in general," explains store owner Raquel Salati, who manages the site with partner Carol Ziegel. "I've made things like beaded jewelry since I was a little girl. In my work as a research scientist I travel all over the world, and I see these beautiful gemstones all over and know that they're just waiting to be made into jewelry."

Far from an ordinary jewelry store, My Silver Gems features exotic designs and styles that are not available from other stores. Using unique materials and unusual gemstones, they have created a line of accessories unlike any other online merchant. "I went to Guatemala recently, and they have this new jade called lilac jade," says Raquel. "It's unique to Guatemala, and it was only discovered a few years ago. In Brazil they have unique gems like tourmaline that you don't see very often in America. They also have a weed that can be dried and shines like gold -- golden grass. I want to bring these new things to people and share, because I'm enthusiastic about sharing. If people haven't gone to these countries, they would never know about these wonderful items."

My Silver Gems also has a blog at www.MySilverGemsBlog.com where the store owners can discuss products and designs, and inform people about the products they make. "Our most unique piece is called the memory wire bracelet, and it's an original design," explains Raquel. "I love talking about those designs. I'm a very spiritual person, and I believe in the power of gemstones and in people's choice in what they wear. If people want us to personalize orders or give feedback on items, like different shapes or sizes or if they see something that is too long or too big, we'll be available to discuss it."

The future holds many new designs and ideas for My Silver Gems, as Raquel and Carol are always looking to expand. "We make things, or we go to unique designers and they provide them for us," says Raquel. "I have so many more designs to put on -- it's hard to choose the products."
